Gurnee Illinois – The Gurnee Police Department are partnering with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, and other law enforcement agencies across the state of Illinois to prevent distracted driving and stop people from looking at their mobile device and electronics devices while driving on any Illinois roads in a attempt to make the roads safer and people can get to their destination safely. In a media release from the Gurnee police, they stated that they strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason – to save lives. This increased enforcement was implemented to help motorists avoid the often-deadly consequences of distracted driving with a simple reminder: Put the Phone Away or Pay. The also noted that the deployments were in addition to officers conducting their regular patrol duties. The results of the month-long campaign that ran April 1st-30th are as follows:
Total number of extra hours worked:36
Number of officers involved: 3
Number of special details conducted: 9
Number of safety restraint violations: 11
Number of distracted driving violations: 24
Number of unlicensed/suspended/revoked licenses: 6
Number of other moving/equipment violations: 16
Number of vehicles stopped: 42
