West Chicago Illinois – Hey West Chicago! The Union pacific historic steam engine named the Big Boy will be in your area on June 3rd, 2026, and be parked at the Larry S. Provo Union Pacific Training Center located at 335 Spencer St, West Chicago, IL 60185 just seven minutes away from the West Chicago Metra Station on the Union Pacific West line. It’s a seven minute walk to the UP training center from the Metra station after you leave the parking lot just turn left on Main Street then walk one block to Wilson Ave then turn left then take Wilson ave till you get to Spencer St then you get to the training center this is a free event to the public but unfortunately there is no public parking available at the site, visitors are strongly encouraged to take the UP West Line to the West Chicago Station, which is a short walk away from the UP facility according to the Metra’s press release. the Big Boy will be on display on Wednesday the 3rd of June from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM for its historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate the U.S.A.’s 250th Anniversary the last stop on the tour will be Philadelphia on Saturday July 4th, 2026. the last time this historic steam engine was in the Chicagoland area was in September of 2023 so don’t miss your chance to see the Big Boy up close on Wednesday the 3rd of June. Metra also stated that they will have five inbound and five outbound trains servicing West Chicago during the event, allowing rail fans and the simply curious ample opportunity to see this historic remnant of the steam era up close.
